Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

RATIONALE –

Today I've completed the animation assets that I'll need for the basic set up of the character's skeleton rig, and for the animation itself. I need this as a sort of sprite sheet asset table set up within Unity.

CONTEXT –

Any game developer who uses rigging animation or even sprites needs to first create the images they'll be moving within the animation/gaming software. Examples of games I've taken particular insperation from are Night in the Woods, Detention, and Ori and the Blind Forest.

METHODS –

I created the assets today within Photoshop, as it's my primary means of drawing completed artworks. From here, I'll be bringing the assets into Unity and begin the rigging process. I'll be following youtube tutorials on how to do this, however if I really do struggle or face issues, I'll have to reach out for help or consider trying another software (see day 2's process update).

OUTCOMES –

In order to succseed in this assignment at all, I first needed to solidify a design that matched the ideal game I had in mind. With that in mind it was a matter of creating that character and creating the assets. There's a lot more I could do in terms of asset making to enhance the animation, such as frame by frame animation with the character's cloak (which is a potential idea if things go well), though today I completed the base model needed to proceed further. The most important part now from here is being able to create a succsessful rig within Unity, that will allow me to animate the character effectivly.

(I'll be writing up a propper description of this potential game setting within the next day's post, or at the very least my folio 1 submission materials)
