Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

Today I continued to work on my animatic, taking into account the feedback I got during my Folio presentation and integrating the new concepts I developed over the weekend. I didn't get as much accomplished as I initially intended, but I set myself pretty lofty goals. I added one of the two new vignettes ideas, and re-iterated one shot which was previously cut. Moon suggested that the re-imagined shot could be more impactful still by applying the 'rule of threes' to the action of ripping a roof off. Tomorrow I will add resistance to the action, so that three tugs are necessary to remove the roof. Two shots were cut entirely as per feedback on Friday: the second shadow shot, and the footprint of trees shot.

I also did some research about backgrounds for the city. Ben mentioned during a feedback session that cityscapes are often more impactful when situated in environments that are roughly inspired by real world locations. By grounding my city designs in existing environments, I hope to make my work more relatable and less purely metaphorical. Two effective examples are Spiderman Into the Spiderverse and Hilda, which are based off Brooklyn and Bergen respectively.

Tomorrow:

  • Add final(?) vignette of sheet of grass being laid down
  • Elaborate on end scene: add turn and dissolve into nature
  • Look to context/inquiry/intention
