Expected outcome: More delicate look.

More tests on the shading and texturing.

Method: Blender

I’ve made a presentation in the morning and received an interesting idea and direction from my tutor and peer. That is to have a giant creature under the water while the boat is tiny on the see to get a strong contrast of the size between these objects. It is to express the fear of large objects which is also called Megalophobia. (Examples are attached below) I also got the idea of the image can be vertical instead of horizontal to enhance the feeling of the depth of the space. Meanwhile, it could start with the shot that a small boat is floating on the sea, then the camera focus on the items such as human and boat which the audience would quickly link to their common sense of the size of them, after that the camera follows the fishing line and dives into the sea, at the same time it zooms out slowly then sees the giant creature entirely.

However, my initial idea came from the fish tank(aquarium) setup, as in, some people design and build a small environment or landscape in the fish tank (I believed it’s also called aquascape). So I created the model of the creature which is designed to be small, it might not fit well if I simply use what I have and scale it up. And because of the time I have, so I can only make changes based on existing items now. But then I think have a moderate size is important, since the image is trying to deliver a delightful scene instead of emphasising megalophobia.

Problem: Although the 3D scene is built completely based on the concept art, it looks empty sometimes when the camera changes the viewpoint. I think the reason is that the view of the picture is limited and only one direction, it can be easily filled by objects. However, the 3D scene is viewed in various direction, so it needs more objects to fill the space. I have to figure it out and not just simply copy-paste the ‘plants’ and ‘rocks’.

Outcome: I tried rescaling the creature based on the comments and see if it was working.
