For week 8, I have been working on exporting a simple blend-shape from Maya to Unity and writing script in Unity to activate the blend-shape according to the animations brought in from Maya. For this, I created a blend-shape in Maya for Cheek Puff and animated to turn it on and off through a controller and joint. I then took the animation from Maya to Unity and wrote a script to activate that blend-shape inside Unity according to the animations imported from Maya.

In the coming week, this will be a foundational step to me developing a tool in Maya to export the blend-shapes and create a C# script for Unity, which will automate the whole process.

As for research this week, I have been looking at videos on how blend-shapes are set up in other software, so I can see what I might need to do to bring it into Unity. I have also been looking at riggers and tool developers’ profiles, to see if there are any tools like this already available.

I need to continue trying out new ideas and working on this tool as much as I can. I also need to keep on looking for references online and check out tools that others have built. I need to start breaking problems into small steps and fixing it small bits at a time instead of trying to solve everything together.
