StyleFrames opening titles (2016)  by Eran Hilleli (https://eranhilleli.com/)

1. StyleFrames opening titles is an animated short film created by Eran Hilleli for Stash and FITC’s StyleFrames conference in New York. It tells a story of everyone heading to one destination for the same purpose.

2. The theme of the film is about gathering and coming together. It uses characters of all kinds (no matter if they resemble humankind) to represent the people that are going to attend the conference and uses a big monster to act as the presentation screen of the event. This film shows that a conference title does not always need to be rigid and bland, it can be interesting and lively as well.

3. The art style of the animated short film is aesthetically pleasing. It is clean and neat. The short clip in Hilleli’s portfolio shows that he created them using the low poly method. Moreover, he probably uses cel-shading to texture the modelling. The film informs us of the potential to create a beautiful animated short with just low poly modelling, which will then decreasing the usually long rendering time drastically.

Out of Sight (2010)

1. Out of Sight is a 2D animated short film created by three graduates from the National Taiwan University of Arts. It shows us the adventure of a blind little girl when her dog goes after the robbery to get her bag back.

2. The theme of the film is their title ‘out of sight’. As the main protagonist is blind, she doesn’t have the ability to see. When she uses her smelling and hearing to find her direction, the animators visualise the little girl’s imagination of what’s going on around her. They also use smooth transitions to hide away all those people or places the little girl hasn’t gotten in touch with. The film describes the places, people, and objects in the mind of a blind girl using different things. For example, she imagines a plane as a whale and the stick she is holding as a magic wand.

3. This work gives a perspective of what it is like to be blind to the audience. It informs us of the potential of manipulating people’s senses using audio and visual in the medium of animation.
