Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO is a 2016 popular AR mobile game developed by Niantic for Android and Apple devices. It was the most popular game of 2016. It is a game that allows the user to go around the physical world and catch Pokémon, which they can later use to fight other players and capture gyms around the world. This game uses AR to bring Pokémon to our environment and make the game more enjoyable. While the AR feature of the game is not that important for playing, this was the first game to try something like this successfully, which is why many games later followed suit. This game shows us the potential of AR, in mobile phones, to be able to use it in relation to the physical environment. Not only for games, but this idea can be used in fields like architecture, medicine, engineering, and many other fields.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is a 2019 location-based AR mobile game inspired by the Wizarding World and the Harry Potter franchise. This game is like Pokémon GO, in a sense that it also allows the user to go around the physical world to complete different missions and collect various items. This game does a better job at AR than Pokémon GO, as most of the gameplay here is based on AR. You interact with things in the physical world using your camera and your hand gestures to complete various missions and earn rewards throughout the game. Like Pokémon GO, this game opens the world to more possibilities of Augmented Reality.

Rollercoaster Tycoon

Rollercoaster Tycoon is a simulation game developed by Chris Sawyer in 1999. In this game players build and maintain a rollercoaster theme park, ensuring that the park goers have the time of their lives. Through many expansions and spinoffs, this game has greatly influenced the game industry through the simulation genre in both computer and board games. The first version of this successful game was developed by just one developer and it took him 2 years to do it, which gives people like us the inspiration to keep on moving forward and making games. It shows us that if you have a good game idea, then even if you are making it alone, if you put your heart into it, you’ll be able to push through and finish it.
