Week 12

The Opposite Game

1. ‘The Opposite Game’ is a stop motion animated film that is created based on a poem written by Brendan Constantine, telling the story of an argument about the opposite of the word ‘gun’ in the class.

2. This animation presents the poem ‘The Opposite Game’ to the audience through visuals. It helps the viewer understand the poem better as the illustration is clear and interesting. The fact that the base of the animation takes the form of a book relates the project to the term study, or even more so education, which is what the poem is about. The creators used different metaphors to depict the lines of a poem. For example, they matched a donkey head to a girl to address the line ‘are you the president of Stupid-land’.

3. This work informs us of the potential of conveying a piece of poem through the medium of animation. The balance between visuals and poem is well-maintained so that they won’t overpower each other. It also shows us the unlimited possibility of creating an animation by using the techniques from both stop motion and traditional animation.

Mogu &Perol

1. ‘Mogu & Perol’ is a stop motion animated film that tells a story about two friends living on an island that is full of delicious food and how their friendship forms along their way.

2. The theme of the animated film is about friendship. In the film, friendship means sharing and understanding each other instead of taking advantage of the one with a weaker mind. It uses the difference between the way Mogu and Perol acting around each other before and after the incident of blueberries to help to address the message.

3. This work informs us of the potential of presenting the process of creating delicious food using stop motion. The process is so smooth that it can be compared to a live-footage cooking show. They also play with the representation of the characters so that they are against stereotypes in the work. For example, a giant character is timid and a small character is acting a bit like a bully.
