Theme:

For the theme of play and time,I made a short pixel animation named Sisyphus to express an sense of 'Anachronism'. I believe this juxtaposition of products from different eras will bring a unique, absurd feeling and generate new inspiration and thinking.

Context:

Anachronism is mostly considered a error, is a juxtaposition of people, events, objects, language terms and customs from different time periods. The team of Disco Elysium (my favorite game) talked about this concept in their interview, but they argue that anachronism has a unique power instead. In Disco Elysium it's 70% coordination and 30% dissonance (they have a well-developed car phone in their classic car).

It's hard for me to describe the feeling, like when you catch the school bus to school early in the morning and see a rider on a horse pass by. It certainly feels incongruous, but it also creates a wonderful sense of absurdity.

The famous board game - Warhammer 40K series also has this wonderful sense of anachronism.

Many games strive to create a 100% harmonious world, but sometimes too much harmony can make players feel tired and lose their desire to explore.

Method:

1. Randomly draw some imagery about time in the framework of mythical times/ancient times/feudal times/industrial revolution/modern/future

2. Randomly combine them and see if any of them give me this unique sense of anachronism

3. I picked this group - Sisyphus, Metropolis, Monument to the Third International'

4. Create a Simple Pixel Animation

Reflection:

Completing this project made sense to me. To some extent, It's kind of like letting intuition work for me, and the product of my intuition gave me new thinking.

Such a setting can also accommodate more discussions than a simple future world or a classical world. After all, you can't talk about sexual liberation in a medieval game.
