Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

For animated narratives this week we have been looking at character, in particularly how their internal thoughts are expressed externally. I have responded to this with a script and storyboard in order visually tell a story that a friend recounted to me.

I started with the script first. I have done screenwriting before, and the tricky part about writing a script for a visual story without dialogue is conveying the plot succintly and clearly. I tried to keep the script to the point, direct and without flamboyances. It is my blueprint for the visuals, and what I would come back to for the storyboard.

In the storyboard, something that I liked was the creative freedom I had in drawing it out. Because I am not limited to live action restrictions, like location, space or movement, I can draw the scene however I like. I also aimed to convey the use of motion smears to indicate follow through and arcs. The notations on the shots and sketches also indicate what motion is occurring within the frame.
