Theme

In responds to this week's theme play and forces, I have made an animation of the heart is beating with excitement and shattering the glass.

Context

When associating forces, the first things that come to mind are gravity, compression and forces that can be seen from the appearance of deformation. After watching certain examples in the class, they use windmills to present the force generated by the invisible wind on paper or data in a visible way. So, I started to think about how to represent these abstract, invisible forces. Finally, I decided to use the visual impact to show the force of love. Like the forces between chemical elements, the forces operating between individuals are difficult to observe directly but become visible through their effects on individuals (Cacioppo, S., & Cacioppo, J. T., 2012). Therefore, I use the heartbeat to represent the way love sends force, and the breaking of glass to show its strength.

Methods

I used C4D to create the whole animation. The main difficulty in the production process is how to handle the image when the glass is shattered. The glass being shattered is an expression of the force of love. I deliberately slowed down the frame at the beginning of the shattering, to amplify this force and make the image more compelling. Finally, in the choice of materials and light and environment, I chose warm tones, so that in a way I could express that this is a positive love. You can imagine that a person's heart beating is so fast when he falls in love with another person at first sight, and the force of this love even shatters the glass.

Response

The Final animation is here:

Reflection

After finishing this short animation, I released that I am more inclined to express something abstract. In the first week of practice, I tried to use animation to express my inner emotions, and this week I used the heartbeat to show the force of love. There are many other things in the abstract, such as the force of wind in nature, the force of growth, and the stress of people in life, etc. The force itself is invisible, and people perceive the force through the shape change. How to use some ways to amplify these forces, or to amplify certain perceptions, is something I would like to explore in the future.
