In response to the theme of ‘Character, Environment and Events’, I created a ‘Pokemon-esque’ character called 'Zipice' that hunts in the frozen tundra using Adobe Illustrator.

By creating a creature that has adapted to its environment and habitat through unzipping it’s body as a whole to carefully lay over the ice holes like a thin, see-through ‘net’ trap. Zipice catches unsuspecting humans and animals alike to eat, quickly zipping back up around them and swallowing its prey whole. I showed how it interacts and adapts to its environment, through placing its favourite hunting grounds on nearby fishing holes, taking advantage of the human presence in the otherwise frozen wasteland.

Similar work has been produced by Pokémon/Pocket Monsters (Nintendo), created by Satoshi Tajiri, Ken Sugimori and Junichi Masuda, whose franchise explores this theme of Character, Environment and Events, by its creation of the worlds and ‘Pokemon’, within each habitat and city.

Note: Specific inspiration to this creature: ‘Zipice’, is Pokemon: ‘Ditto’.
