Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

1) Buehler presents a comparative analysis on different implementations of 3rd person cameras in games, and the effects of different stylistic choices, as well as common design and implementation problems.
2) The analysis examines a wide variety of games from modern to early 3D pioneers, reflecting on how different cameras positions (player centred or slightly offset) give the player more or less importance, control, and ease of targeting.
3) The analysis gives developers a great overview of different ways they may implement a 3rd person camera, the advantages and disadvantages of each, and also when some styles are appropriate or inappropriate (some perspectives lend themselves better to action sequences, others shift narrative importance onto different objects, etc).
