Week 4

Response

In response to the theme of Discussions of Place, I created a short animated practice in the world of bubbles. I listed out the characteristics of the bubbles and the possible action of the character. Then, I sketched out a simple storyboard to indicate the movement of the character before animating.

By experimenting with the characteristics of bubbles, e.g. floating in the air and popping when getting too big, I was able to create a looping animation of the life of a girl who lives in that world. As she is accustomed to the constant floating and popping bubble environment, she wouldn’t panic when the bubble pop and she would just continue her reading calmly. Therefore, I was able to engage the environment directly to the character’s action.

Like the work of ‘Balance’ produced by Wolfgang and Christoph Lauenstein, the short animated film ‘Wind’ produced by Robert Löbel (https://vimeo.com/80883637) also explored the possibility of living in a world with its own feature.
