Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

Theme:

Tinkering. experimenting and testing project into different directions.

Method:

I will relate to my studio 3 project. I am modeling assets for my environment design. I will try to combine assets/models to make something interesting. I will tinker with new ideas and experiment with new and unexpected directions towards my projects. Plants are the main asset for most of my environment designs. Most of the locations are exterior and require plants. I will tinker with plants and try new things in Unity such as trying to make an animation of plants growing.

Context (Edited/Updated):

I was inspired by a video I saw called "Plant room 360video"  by Jeron Braxon & Julian Glander. It's an interactive piece of a 360 degrees view of different virutal environments. The style is very simple and it is one of my references for environment design for my studio 3 project. The movements of the plants and assets play an important role for making it feel like the environment is alive.

Alec Mcleod is a visual artist. He creates animation using simple shapes with different types of materials and the movement of the objects are very subtle and unexpected.

Response:

As seen in the video above, instead of doing an animation of plants growing, I played around with particle effect in Unity. I used Unity because it is a new software to me and using new softwares will lead to another process of creating more interesting things.I thought about using tinkering as a method to explore new ways to my idea. I didn't use plants as the object, I used a cube and the particle effects in Unity made the motion upwards as if the cube is getting distorted in different sizes. I placed my camera in the perspective view because it looked like the growth of an object. I tweaked the values and disrupted the order. I gave the texture a mixed color instead of giving it a green color just like plants. I changed it to abstract to have an abstract meaning to the piece.

Reflection (Edited/Updated):

Main goal of tinkering was playing with experimentation with new directions. I played with the material of the object and played with the movement of the motion asthetics. While tinkering, I played with tools in Unity to create such a piece.
