This work examines ideas of using external features to show the internal thing of characters.

In this I use blender modeled a character as my result of character design. By 3d modelling it allows me to arrange the character’s posture and appearance. Those sun glass and cigar are all part of that character’s external features. By that, I want to convey the personality of the character: a gangster, badass and cool guy. Also the squirrel has a cute big body and fuzzy tail which reveals it’s a funny and cute character. I believe that contrast between its body shape and dressing style would form an appealing character.

Similar work like Garfield by Jim Davis and G – Force by Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films, they all examine the concept of using those dressing and appearance to shape appealing animal characters.

By doing that work, I reflected the ideas of using external features of characters to reveal their internal world. I also realized that in the practice of animation there could be more to do with characters’ emotional expressions. The face of character especially the position and size of their eyes and mouths all could reflect a character’s personality and emotion.
