Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

This week I was mostly working on building the state machine for the animations that I created in Week 12. I also worked on finessing existing animations and adding more animations to the game. To show everything working, I created a demo-level (using pre-existing assets) where the user can see all the animations working in tandem with the user’s input.

After I created the 2D animations in Week 11, I wanted the animations to be played in-game according to the user’s input. And to get this done I had to learn how to work with state machines in Unity. So, my exploration this week covered building state machines inside of Unity, which I have never worked with before. Research, for the most part, was Unity documentation for technical support, watching YouTube tutorials to help set up the state machine, and playing 2D platformer games to check out character animations.

For the coming weeks and semesters, at the start of any project, I need to do in-depth research about that topic, so that I don’t run into the problem that I did on the first half of Folio 2. I need to continue creating simplified lists of what I want to accomplish weekly so that I don’t get overwhelmed while working on a project. I need to take this same energy to other projects that I work on in the future.
